This magnificent 17th century estate lies in the southeastern side of the island, on the national road Corfu – Lefkimi, 17km from the town of Corfu. It covers an area of approximately 110.000 m2 overlooking the sea. On the west, it borders the village of Episkopiana, and is one kilometer away from the village of Moraitika. The cost line forms two small coves, 255 and 126 meters each.
The old summer house of the Kapodistria family and a small hotel unit cover a total of about 1400 m2 perfectly combined with many original architectural features. On the grassy slope of the estate we find numberless, unending lengths of stone parapets in perfect condition, that serve as draining mechanisms, as well as setting apart various types of farming.
Dozens of 100-year-old trees – rare examples of the botanic and farming passion of the Corfiot aristocracy during the 17th and 18th centuries – are found all over the estate. The two 400-year-old magnolia trees were especially admired by Empress Elisabeth of Austria during her stay on the island. A wide variety of local types of grapes and old olive trees of Venetian family grow on the estate. Herbs abound in the estate: oregano, thyme, mint, sage as well as wild carrots and asparagus, radishes, chard and dandelions.
The estate is traversed by two major private dirt roads. This way, access to almost any part of the estate is made possible. The different paths among 100-year-old olive trees, cypresses or oak trees are ideal for hikers or nature lovers, yoga and tai-chi fans, and meditation.
Corfu is a popular location of luxury property, with international buyers of all nationalities. In particular, the 10km area from Messonghi to Benitses, has lately been of huge interest for international investors. The 5-star hotel “Domes Miramare Corfu” of the Emir of Quatar, adjacent to “Kapodistria Estate”, is prevalent in the area.
